We are pleased to interview our sponsor, Brickfield Education Labs, to see how they are looking forward to our upcoming Moodlemoot and to engaging with our attendees!
MootIEUK: Who are you and how does your company help your clients?
Brickfield: We are an Irish software company, focused on providing our tools to corporate and educational clients worldwide, to help them improve the quality of online education by finding, fixing, and futureproofing content accessibility within Moodle.
The accessibility of course content is essential and is being gradually understood as a greater priority and requirement nowadays. Hence, we are very passionate about our main product, the Accessibility+ Toolkit for Moodle, because it helps institutions to reach this goal!
MootIEUK: Have you attended a Moodle Moot before?
Brickfield: Yes, Brickfield is a regular sponsor of the Ireland and UK Moodlemoot, and other Moodlemoots as well, and we really enjoy sharing and discussing Moodle best practices with other Moodlers.
MootIEUK: What is the title of your presentation(s) at this year’s Moot?
Brickfield: We are looking forward to presenting the following topics:
- Tuesday 14:40: Alternate content formats – how to support your students: with Karen Holland and Laia Canet from our Brickfield team.
- Wednesday 10:30: Captioning your videos in Moodle: with Laia Canet from our Brickfield team.
- Wednesday 12:30: And finally, a challenge-filled workshop on Accessibility Bingo – Can you spot the common accessibility issues with this online course?: with Gavin Henrick from our Brickfield team.
MootIEUK: Give us a brief description of what to look forward to.
Brickfield: We are hoping to inspire attendees with some very practical and applicable workflows and examples, to show how simple it is to start your journey to improve the accessibility of your course content!
In our presentations, we’ll be outlining some great features available, inside Moodle, and inside our Accessibility+ Toolkit, which help your students to have a better learning experience.
In our workshop, we’ll do a group review of an online course, see what issues we can spot, and share tips and tricks on how to make content more accessible, and how to support your staff to gain this better understanding of an essential subject.
MootIEUK: Why have you chosen to present this topic?
Brickfield: We are driven to have a world where learning is accessible to all. To this aim, we build awareness and help enable course developers to build more accessible course content, while also demonstrating which tools to use to speed up this process.
MootIEUK: Share with us one tool or technique you or your client implemented while using Moodle which has benefited you and your organisation!
Brickfield: We use the Book resource extensively in our course for a few reasons. Firstly, it means we are building and editing the content online so it is easier to maintain and fix. Secondly, having it as HTML in a responsive platform makes it more flexible for mobile. And lastly, our Toolkit enables students to download the book content in a format they need – be it audio, accessible text format like Docx, and eBook format or also a multitude of braille formats.
MootIEUK: Thanks for sharing your thoughts with our attendees.
